Hank Moonjean (January 19, 1930-October 7, 2012) was an American film producer, executive producer, and associate producer on such eminent films as Dangerous Liaisons (1988) with Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Michelle Pfeiffer, for which he and Norma Heyman jointly received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Moonjean also produced The Great Gatsby (1974) with Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, and Bruce Dern, Child’s Play (1988) with Catherine Hicks and Chris Sarandon, and several Burt Reynolds movies.
Moonjean was Armenian American, who answered an employment ad from MGM Studios soon after graduation from the University of Southern California and became an unaccredited assistant director for the 1954 film, Bhowani Junction directed by George Cukor. Moonjean worked for MGM for eight years on many memorable films, including Blackboard Jungle (1955) with Glenn Ford and Anne Francis, Love Me or Leave Me (1955) with Doris Day and James Cagney, I'll Cry Tomorrow (1955) with Susan Hayward, Kismet (1955) with Howard Keel, Jailhouse Rock (1957) with Elvis Presley. His entire list of credits reads like a Who’s Who of Hollywood.
His one-of-a-kind autobiography reveals the behind-the-scenes backstories of many of MGM’s greatest films from Hollywood Golden Era and the stars, such as Paul Newman, Sidney Poitier, Debbie Reynolds, Leslie Caron, Elizabeth Taylor, Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and Frank Sinatra.
